Dr. Elena Adjei

Biotechnology Summer Intensive, Biotechnology Bootcamp

Dr. Elena Adjei is a Chemistry teacher at McKinley Technology High School in Washington, DC. She is a Brooklyn native that has always had a love for science since her formative years. She attended SUNY New Paltz where she received her BS in molecular/cellular biotechnology.

Dr. Adjei received her Ph.D. in Genetics and Human Genetics. Her research was based on finding biomarkers in urine for sickle cell disease nephropathy. When she is not teaching, she enjoys gardening, video games and home decor.

Dr. Andrew Schuster

Teaching Fellow

Dr. Schuster was awarded the American Biotechnology Association’s Micro-grant to develop a curriculum for a summer biotechnology “boot camp” experience for a small cohort of ten students. The program will target high school underclassmen (rising juniors). During the six week bootcamp, students will learn about various tools in biotechnology through a guided research project.

Schuster currently serves as the CTE Department Chair at McKinley Technology High School in Washington, D.C. He previously taught at Dunbar Senior High School. Schuster earned his Doctorate in Cellular and Molecular Biology at University of Nevada, Reno after earning his Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry at the New College of Florida.
